Juniors

Westgate Cricket Club's junior section comprises of an established U-14 side, an U-16 side and in 2010 is forming an U-12 side.
 
The club has 5 fully qualified Level 2 coaches and 1 fully qualified Level 1 coach. These coaches are responsible for all junior practices and with the assistance of senior players strive to improve the standard of all junior players.

Junior subscriptions:

There is NO joining fee for junior players but there is a £10 yearly subscription fee which is a family membership. Through this type of membership parents are also made members at no extra cost. There is a £2 per match fee. There is NO charge for practice or coaching sessions at Westgate.

Junior Presentation Evening

Westgate Cricket Club would like to invite all Junior members, their families and friends to our annual Junior Presentation Evening on Friday 10th September 2010 in the clubhouse at Westgate Cricket Club.

The evening will start at 6.30pm.

Food will be provided for which there will be a small charge of £3 per head.

At Westgate we believe that our Junior members are a valuable part of the club and their achievements and successes should be recognised and celebrated.

2010 Junior Season

2010 saw, for the first time, the Club run three junior sides at Under 12, Under14 and Under 16 level.

We would like to thank all parents who have supported the sides and helped with transport when necessary. It has been appreciated.

The Club would also like to thank the coaches and players who have given their time freely to help in any aspect of the junior section. Particularly Chris Hill who organised and ran the practices for the Under 12’s and Under14’s, scored and umpired matches, David Hughes who organised and ran the practices for the Under 16’s and the following coaches and players who helped out at various times, Dave Hannigan, Peter Wilson, Andy Hill, Matthew Hill, Zac Buchanan, Khan Puffett, Garry Tattersall, Andrew Wilson and Dave Murphy.

A special mention must go to Ann Hannigan who scored for the Under 14’s and Under 16’s. It is thanks to Ann that those junior scorebooks are second to none in both neatness and detail.

Second Team Debut

Westgate second eleven blooded yet another promising junior in the shape of Connor Jeffreys against Holme on the 30th May 2010. Although he had no chance with the bat due to Westgate amassing 197 runs for a few wickets, he let no one down in the field with his positive attitude. Well done Connor may it be the first of many.

Westgate second eleven blooded a promising junior in the shape of Jack Friel against Warton A on 9th May 2010. Although he did not have much opportunity to show what he can do it was a positive and pleasing first experience of senior cricket. Well done Jack may it be the first of many.


Guard Of Honour

Westgate have been selected to provide the Guard Of Honour for the Friends Provident t20 match, Lancashire Lightning v Warwickshire Bears, on Sunday 20th June at Old Trafford. The club have a limited number of tickets available which will be on a first come first served basis. Transport will be provided for those juniors who make up the Guard Of Honour. Junior Kit – Lord’s Taverners

We have recently received a Junior Cricket Bag from The Lord’s Taverners which will help us equip our new junior under 12 side.

Under 13 Indoor 6 - a - side Champions 2010

Westgate are the U-13 Indoor Six-a-Side Champions for 2010. Congratulations to the eight juniors who represented the club.

Junior League 2010
 

The Junior League age groups have been changed to U - 16, U - 14 and U - 12 in 2010 and we will be running a team in each age group.


 

Congratulations to 16 year old Craig Cleminson who made his 2nd XI debut on Saturday 22nd August at Coniston.

Hat-Trick!

Congratulations to Alex Briggs who took a hat-trick in the U - 13 match against Shireshead on Thursday 14 May.
